Dr. Hirok Chaudhuri is an Associate Professor at the Department of Physics, NIT under the Ministry of Education, Govt. of India. He is also an adjunct faculty and joint coordinator of the Center for Research on Environment and Water at NIT Durgapur. He obtained his B. Sc. (Physics Hons) and M. Sc. (Physics) from Burdwan University, West Bengal, India. He completed his Ph.D. in physics from Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics, Kolkata, India [under Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India], and he performed Post-Doctoral research activity at Variable Energy Cyclotron Center [VECC, a unit of the Department of Atomic Energy, Govt. of India], Kolkata, India. His major research interests include geochemistry for groundwater and surface water, antibiotic detection in water and removal using photocatalyst, Wastewater Treatment using nano-technology, Material Science for environmental applications, Geochemical Precursors for Earthquakes, Geothermal Exploration, Helium Exploration, Environmental Radioactivity, and Nonlinear Dynamics in Climate Science and Earth Science. He has published over 40 scientific papers in peer-reviewed SCI, SCOPUS journals and contributed to more than 17 book chapters published in Springer, Elsevier. He has edited two books published by Springer. He has more than 100 conference publications. He has supervised many Ph. D. students and 35 master's students, including one foreign student, and 13 undergraduate students, including one international student. His current supervision includes 5 Doctoral students and two master students. He is the founder and coordinator of the Science Museum at NITD. He is also acting as the coordinator for the Center for Digital Learning (CDL) at NITD. Dr. Chaudhuri is also working as a member of the International Thematic Group (ITG) of the Brazil-Russia-India-China-South Africa (BRICS) Network University Programme on Water Resources and Pollution Treatment. He was selected as a Fellow of the Earth Science Society of India in 2015. He is a member of the State Level Steering committee and nodal officer for Rashtriya Avishkar Abhiyan (RAA) [a flagship programme of the Govt. of India, Ministry of Education] for the state of West Bengal to promote scientific temper among common people. He served as the co-coordinator for Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (a flagship programme of Govt. of India, Ministry of Education to promote technology for the development of rural India) for the state of West Bengal and Sikkim. Dr. Chaudhuri received Visiting Scientist Fellowship from the Govt. of India, Department of Atomic Energy at VECC, Kolkata in 2009. He was also awarded by ONGC (Oil and Natural Gas Corporation), India, in 2008 for his significant contribution to R & D Activity on the country's first Pressure Swing Adsorption based Prototype Helium Purification Plant at ONGC's Kuthalam GCS, Tamilnadu. He delivered more than 65 invited talks in different parts of the globe. He is also working as a Reviewer in reputed international/national journals.
